Urban Hearth is a cozy dining experience located in Cambridge, MA. The restaurant is like dining at an upscale farm-to-table restaurant but feels like you are dining at home. The intimate dining room has less than 10 tables and counter seats looking directly into their kitchen. I recommend sitting at the chef’s bar so you can mingle with their talented team, take in the smells of the evening meal, and sit in awe of their plating.
The menu features 3 or 5 courses of globally inspired seasonal cuisine. The menu changes ever few weeks and is full of the freshest local ingredients. The prix-fixe menu offers a choose of four starters, four main courses and two desserts. In between courses, you are treated to little bites, hors d’ouvres and palate cleansers. They are also committed to adapting their dishes to meet special dietary restrictions, so everyone can enjoy in their meal. They also have curated wines, craft beers and house cocktails to perfectly accompany your memorable meal.
Chef owner Erin Miller really guided us through this experience. We started with the Bluefin Tuna Crudo. It was presented with nasturtium, sumac salt, tobiko and native popcorn. The flavors blended perfectly together, and it was beautifully plated. We also tried the Lamb Dumplings. Three perfectly tender dumplings were paired with pickled plums, purple kale and leek soubise. It was so flavorful! We also received a little bite of their Roasted Spaghetti Squash. This squash was prepared with fresh ricotta, hakurei turnip, mint, hazelnut praline, biquinho peppers. It was phenomenal!
The meal didn’t end there! We moved on to the entrees with the Halibut & Clams. This evening, the fish was paired with razor clams, wild fennel gnocchi, cherry tomatoes and a tomato acqua pazza. The broth was fresh and flavorful and paired perfectly with the delicate fish. The clams were so tender as well, which is no easy feat as razor clams can easily be overcooked. I loved the combination! We also tried the Seared Duck Breast. It was perfectly cooked with a crunchy layer of fat and topped over Jacob’s cattle bean cassoulet, manchego, and a wild mushroom conserva. I loved the rustic, meaty flavors in this dish. A perfect hearty meal!
The finale was spectacular as well. The dense Chocolate Crème was made with almond macaroon, bourbon plums and spiced almonds. It was rich and creamy end to the meal! Prefer a lighter, fresher dessert than you need to try the Milk & Honey Mille Feuille. A poached apple is paired with chamomile honey, gelato, fennel crème, and olive oil. It was so refreshing.
This was a truly memorable meal at Urban Hearth. If you love farm-to-table cuisine, you will love your meal here. You can’t beat the atmosphere, cuisine, service and chef’s!
